What sunday has come to mean for me ? and what does it mean for you ?
Hi . so what is new with you all ? on my front , i am struggling to adjust to a new life as a systems engineer trainee at Tez Networks. office hours hardly allow me to indulge in blogging and social networking has consequently taken a backseat.
Thankfully, i have weekends at my disposal for relaxing and unwinding myself by doing what i like best --- reading . but time is an unrelenting force and such is its ruthless nature that by the time you start doing something concrete( like writing an article) you realise that its too late . weekend over. back to the grind from tomorrow !!
ok,. enough of my self obsessed ranting. lets get to other things .. so, i just finished reading "missionaries in india" by arun shourie .. its a very well written and thought provoking book which reflects the intellectual genius that mr. arun shourie is widely regarded for. i shall write an article related to the subject of this book for www.bhejakhol.com .. we have a lot of articles lined up now.. bidisha has just finished another book review , raghav has finished reading jaswant singh's book on partition , siddharth mukherjee is going to author his first post shortly and i am really excited to read it !!
what about DAN BROWN ?? apparently, his latest novel - THE LOST SYMBOL has already been declared a bestseller, with reports of having sold over 1 million copies in europe and north america alone.. sadly, that is quite contrary to the picture in india.(or atleast in delhi.). if you were to trust the reports of TOI , major bookstores have received a lukewarm response to the book... they claim the demand is not commensurate with the hype that this piece of literature on freemasonry has generated .. indian readers are always unpredictable .. The Fountainhead became a bestseller here much later after it was recognised as an authoritative piece on objectivism, maybe inidan readers react later.. or maybe they are skeptical in purchasing a new book and they wait till it becomes an standard piece of literature in its genre. that arguement justifies the fact that "the white tiger" --- ( the most worthless book ever to win the man booker prize) has been widely read here, even though the reactions have been mixed.
Why do we wait for a book to be recognised as a global literary standard to buy and start reading it ?? do we lack originality in our choice ? do we lack the ability to judge a book ?
these are some questions i would like to ask you this sunday...
But most importantly my question for you is : What has sunday come to mean for you ? how do you spend most of your time on this one golden day of the week ?
